Mux is produced by hardworking citizens of Brooklyn, New York, who often enjoy this view.
Mux’s creators have been working together for ten years and are well regarded as entrepreneurs and technologists. This service was originally developed as a component of Cruxy.com, but later spun out after its value as a Software as a Server (SaaS) product was realized.
Mux 1.0, the free consumer service, was one of the first consumer services released on the Amazon EC2 platform nearly 18 months ago. The user interface was very simple and raw, but the service became quite popular regardless.
From LifeHacker.com
“All you do is point Mux to your video, tell it what kind of output you’re looking for, and away it goes.”
From MakeUseOf.com
“It has some handy features that you won’t find with others.”
From SiteGuide.us
“A 1.2 Mib YouTube video file I tested, ended up as a 150 KiB 3gp file after conversion. Pretty efficient I must say…”
Earlier this year, Mux 2.0 was released with a much improved user interface, including support for upload video files directly from a user’s desktop. This made Mux useful for a whole new class of users, people looking to get video from their desktop to their mobile phone, which Mux provided great support for. Another new feature was the ability to convert videos to audio-only mp3 files, a feature very popular with the YouTube crowd, looking to get music for the iPod’s from their favorite viral videos.
From PC Magazine: “Give it a few minutes to work its magic, and Mux will send you an e-mail with the location from which you can download your newly formatted video.”
From Chip Chick: “Not all of us have the time or patience to use software to convert video from one format to another. Yes, we’re that lazy sometimes. Luckily there is Mux, the “happy hungry videobot” that will convert videos for you between formats, which you can then download straight to your computer. ”
From AppScout: “If all Mux did was convert and download video, it wouldn’t be noteworthy; there are dozens of downloadable and Web apps that do that without a problem. But by allowing you to download the video, share it either with the public or with a group you create, or even upload video from your computer to share, Mux takes saving and sharing Web video to a new level.”
Finally, over the last six months, the team was been working on MuxCloud. The popularity of Mux has led to many inbound inquiries of “how much does it cost for a commercial license” or “how can i use Mux on my site?”. The interest is in doing much more with video than just converting something to Flash - it is really about video computing, in all formats, and in many applications moving forward. MuxCloud’s on-demand pricing, instant availability and powerful features can provide the video bootstrap for everyone from a small startup to a major enterprise or commercial portal.
